Swan Hill Community Toy Library

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who runs the library?

We are a non-profit organization run by a voluntary committee with support from our members and their families. We are always in need of new committee members. From each new committee member, we gain new ideas and a fresh look into what can be improved. We are not a council or government organisation or a private company. We are a group of parents working together to benefit our children. The library is run by the members and a volunteer committee, who looks after the day-to-day running of the library.

What happens if we lose a piece to a toy?

Things go missing… it happens often, especially smaller items. We usually ask you to borrow the toy to see if it happens to turn up. If it doesn’t, we make a note of it on the computer and add a ‘lost pieces’ note to the toy. We just ask that you keep an eye out for it, as they usually do eventually turn up and we love it when missing pieces get returned.

What happens if my child breaks a toy?

Items occasionally get damaged, especially when they are getting old and have been very well loved. In these cases we just ask that you notify us, so we can check the item for safety and to see if it can still be used, needs fixing or should be retired. If the item is new and it is broken, the committee will discuss options, to see what should happen next, very rarely we may ask for some financial help to replace the item.

How many toys may I borrow?

This depends on the type of membership you choose to purchase. A 3 toy family membership allows you to borrow up to 3 toys at a time. A 6 toy membership allows you to borrow up to 6 toys at a time and if you purchase a Daycare or Group membership, you can borrow up to 10 items at a time. The loan period is 28 days.

Can my children stay and play in The Toy Library?

In accordance with Child Safe Standards all children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian while visiting the Toy Library. Having said this, Yes - your children can look and play with the toys while they are visiting the Toy Library with you. All we ask is that all items are packed away when they are finished playing. Please check to see that all parts are accounted for and it is returned to the correct location on the shelves, ready for the next family.
